A Sunny Day in the Park

This story is inspired by the movie Up from Pixar. In Up, balloons, friendship, and adventure help people see the world in a new way.

It is a sunny morning. The air smells like warm bread from the shop near the park. Mia and Leo walk under the green trees. Leo has a small map, and Mia has two apples in her bag. They hear a soft pop and then a funny bark.

A yellow balloon flies over the grass. It dances in the wind and touches a tall tree. Under the tree, Mr. Finch sits on a blue bench. He wears a brown hat, like Carl in the movie Up. “My balloon is for my dog, Pip,” he says. Pip jumps and barks at the tree.

Mia smiles. “We help you,” she says. Leo looks at the map, then at a red kite in the sky. “The wind goes this way,” he says. He puts his apple on the grass. Pip runs to it, and the kite string moves near the balloon.

Mia catches the string. Leo pulls slowly. The balloon comes down with a soft bump. Mr. Finch laughs, and Pip puts his nose on the yellow balloon. “You are brave,” Mr. Finch says. Mia gives him one apple. Leo folds the map. They walk home in the sun, with Pip’s bark behind them and a yellow balloon shining over the bench.
